Winter Gardening – How to grow Masala at home

Masala not only increases the taste of food but it also helps us stay healthy and fit. There are plenty of edibles we can plant in winter time. 

Like Ginger helps in improving cough n cold, and turmeric helps us build strong immunity. Fenugreek seeds lowers down cholesterol and carom seeds helps minimize the problem of piles.

Lets check how can we grow all these plants/Masala/Herbs in winters at home and learn about their benefits.


How to plant?

Take small amount of fenugreek seeds and let them sprout. You can also directly take fenugreek seeds. Spread them in a pot filled with soil and cover with soil. Sprinkle some amount of water to keep the soil moisturised . After few days you can check the plant starts growing.

Benefits of Fenugreek seeds :-

  • Its good for heart and maintains proper blood circulation.
  • Specially in winters, it helps in tummy ache, cough, gastric problems.
  • It reduces cholesterol.
  • It is useful for skin infection.
  • It helps control diabetes.
  • It is helpful to breastfeeding mothers.
  • It improves skin and hair health.
  • It helps in weight loss.
  • It helps in digestion.


How to plant?

Take that piece of ginger whose small bud has erupted. Now place that ginger in the pot and fill it with soil. Sprinkle water. Make sure that the bud remains upside while planting.

  • Ginger is source of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc.
  • It helps treat diarrhoea.
  • Increases sweating.
  • It heals ulcers.
  • Gives relief in nausea.
  • Improves diabetes.
  • Helps in weight loss.
  • It has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • It boosts immunity.

Note – Additionally ,  you can add compost as it supplies nutrients to the soil. Sometimes you need to skip watering at regular intervals, when you see the soil is hard, you can water.

Winter growing and home gardening has taken off in the commercial sphere nowadays. Also, home gardeners have an advantage to grow and consume according to their need and taste.
