Palm oil – Your daily need

Palm oil is used widely as a cooking oil. In many of the supermarket products including bread, pastries, peanut butter , chocolate and margarine. In many personal products like lipstick, shampoo, cleaning products etc also, palm oil is used.

• Improves skin and hair health
• Suitable for sensitive skin
• Slows progress of heart disease
• Used for weight loss and increasing metabolism

Palm Oil doesn’t have any flavour and thus the actual flavour of the food doesn’t get blended and that makes it unique from many other oils. It is rich in texture which makes it perfect fir for many dishes.

I want my friends and followers to try it personally and then think about the use of palm oil by their own thoughts and not to go blindly by the reviews going around. Also, it needs to be kept in mind that excess of anything hurts.

From basically used as cooking oil , palm oil had a variety of medicinal uses also. its used for the treatment of headache and skin infections. Its also used as antidote for poison. Malaysia and Indonesia has the majority of worldwide palm oil production today. This oil is extensively used in cooking variety of cuisines. Palm oil is one of the most widely produced edible fats in the world. Palm oil is semisolid at room temperature but can be processed into a liquid cooking oil. Its less saturated than butter and contains no trans fat.

As in food, palm oil is used for frying so many items and it is also used as an ingredient in many processed foods. I have observed the use of palm oil in manufacturing soaps, toothpaste, waxes, lubricants and ink. Many products that use palm oil aren’t clearly labelled. Palm oil and its derivatives can appear under many names such as vegetable oil, palm kernel, glyceryl , etc.

Today more than two-thirds of palm oil goes into food. Palm oils versatility is not limited to food. It can be easily and expensively fractioned. It also has tremendous advantages because of its versatility. Thats why, according to Harvard nutrition experts, Palm oil is much better than high trans fat
shortenings and probably a better choice than butter. Boycotting palm oil will only lead to its replacement by other crops which needs more farmland and likely more deforestation. The cost of production is far less than any compared vegetable or animal fat, is said by Malaysian palm oil council. Industry is simply palming off the benefits to the consumer.

In 2020, due to covid, we are able too see sharp dip of 14% in total vegetable oil imports. India needs 25 million tonnes of edible oils to meet its domestic requirement at the current consumption level of 19kgs per person per year. Out of the total requirements, around 10 million tonnes are produced domestically and the remaining 60% is met through imports.

After India, China is the largest buyer of palm oil. Crude palm oil prices in Malaysia and Indonesia strikes by 10% as supply to china conked. Covid19 threat has generated a lot of uncertainties in the trade.

I am hoping and hope is important because it can make present moment less difficult to bear. Hope that the measures introduced in India settle down soon and bring stability in the market.
